L’Imperial College de Londres, centre d’estudis universitaris i d’investigació britànic, ha calculat que un 15% de la població espanyola s’ha infectat del coronavirus. Es tracta d’una estimació formulada per models de projecció de dades (probabilitat estadística) que situa la xifra de positius a Espanya, de mitjana, en els 7 milions, una xifra immensament superior als 94.417 diagnòstics del dia d’avui. L’estudi assenyala que de no haver-se pres les mesures de contenció de la mobilitat, la xifra oficial de diagnosticats seria a hores d’ara de 16.000 persones més. Aquests resultats situen l’estat espanyol al capdavant dels europeus afectats. L’estimació pel país on més impacte ha tingut la pandèmia, Itàlia, és del 9,8% de la seva població infectada.
El director del Centre Espanyol d’Alertes Sanitàries, Fernando Simón, ha explicat que ja coneixia aquest informe que avui s’ha fet públic a Espanya. Ha apuntat que, tractant-se de resultats basats en l’aplicació de models i no amb la realitat, se n’han de prendre amb cautela les dades. Amb tot, es tracta d’unes conclusions que avalen les mesures que el seu equip ha empés el govern central a prendre amb vistes a la contenció de la propagació de la COVID-19.
